Our biggest update to date features a suite of new maps to explore, exciting crossover features, and a chance to show that you have what it takes to keep the city moving, whether it’s on the roads or in the underground!

The update coming to Mini Motorways includes:

• Three brand-new maps! Three of Mini Metro’s most popular cities are now available in Mini Motorways, including the winner of our player vote, New York City. Recreate London’s iconic roundabouts or attempt to recreate Mumbai’s famous expressways.
• Train stations! These cities are home to bustling railway networks already, and it’s your job to ensure their trains don’t interrupt your traffic! Train stations are new building types that will require careful planning and attention as you draw your roads around unique existing railroads and keep up with the demands of their passengers.
• Each of these maps also includes all-new challenges, new achievements, and a gorgeous new soundscape from Disasterpeace.
• This update also includes performance improvements.
• One known issue in the Nintendo Switch build where the game will lock up if you unlock a map that is also the current daily or weekly challenge. This issue already has a patch submitted to Nintendo, all you have to do is download the latest version of the game and it will be fixed.

The update coming to Mini Metro includes:

• Three more new maps! We’ve brought three of our most popular cities from Mini Motorways and their gorgeous colour palettes to Mini Metro. Another Shinkansen map is yours to enjoy in Tokyo. Or you can carefully traverse the rivers of Warsaw. If you want more than just rivers, the Portuguese coast is yours to explore in Lisbon, a tricky five-line map.
• An all-new photo mode! Export screenshots of your metro networks with decorative frames to show off your unique cities.
• A much-loved feature from Mini Motorways comes to Mini Metro in the form of a new way to capture GIFs. Export colourful animations of your metro networks at any stage in their growth to share with friends or just for bragging rights.
• Fresh challenges and achievements for each of these maps, plus updated audio from Disasterpeace.
• The iOS version of Mini Metro has a know issue in some languages where the map unlock scores for Warsaw and Tokyo are listed backwards. The correct unlock path is 300 on Warsaw -> 400 on Lisbon -> 500 on Toyko. This issue is already fixed and is under review at Apple now and we apologise for the confusion!

And we’ve loved revisiting so many Mini Metro memories over the past few weeks. But only one city can be the winner, and now it’s up to you to make the final call. 

Which city from Mini Metro will be transformed into a challenging new map in Mini Motorways? Cast your final vote on the form here, and we’ll find out the winner together on May 8th PST!

By nominating your favourite map in the first round and then voting on one of the top four finalists in the last round, you acknowledge that the final choice of which Mini Metro map comes to Mini Motorways is ultimately up to Dinosaur Polo Club. While we will do our best to honour the results of the voting, it is possible that unforeseen complications might arise, as with any game development project.

Additionally, you must only cast your vote once, and all players who submit more than one vote will have their vote disqualified. We would love to bring all of the maps from Mini Metro over to Mini Motorways, but ultimately there will only be one map chosen.

You’ll find some intriguing new maps have already been crafted, such as an 11-line Tokyo, a Toronto with a mix of subways and streetcars, and a Qingdao with a third weekly asset.

This update is called Mini Metro: Workshop, and it is available now across many desktop platforms, with more on the way soon!

How do I install new maps?

Good question! While it is easiest to use in conjunction with Steam Workshop, many desktop platforms are capable of installing player-built cities.

Steam

If you’re playing Mini Metro on Steam, you can browse the available maps on Steam Workshop and subscribe to any you’d like to play. Head to the Mini Metro’s Workshop page and take a look around.

To download a map, click on its thumbnail in the workshop page, and click the green Subscribe button. It will be available for play the next time you start Mini Metro.

Other platforms

If you’re playing Mini Metro on Windows, Mac, or Ubuntu, but not on Steam, never fear! Most maps will still be available, they just take a little more work to install.

1. Download a community-built Mini Metro map! To begin with, you can find Katarzyna’s original maps from Mini Metro More from her itch.io page.
2. Download the new update (release-44) from your storefront and run it if you haven’t already. This will create the folder that you need to copy the new maps into.
3. Exit the game and find the mod folder on your computer. It will be:
   • C:\Users\username\AppData\LocalLow\Dinosaur Polo Club\Mini Metro\mod on Windows. Because AppData is a hidden directory by default, you can get there more easily by opening Windows Explorer and copying %userprofile%\AppData\LocalLow\Dinosaur Polo Club\Mini Metro\mod into the address bar.
   • ~/Library/Application Support/Dinosaur Polo Club/Mini Metro/mod on macOS. You can open this by opening Finder, pushing ⇧⌘G, and copying the path into the dialog box.
   • ~/Library/Containers/com.mpdigital.MiniMetro/Data/Library/Application Support/com.mpdigital.MiniMetro/mod on macOS if you are playing the Mac App Store version. As above, you can open the folder by opening Finder, pushing ⇧⌘G, and copying the path into the dialog box.
   • ~/.config/unity3d/Dinosaur Polo Club/Mini Metro/mod on Ubuntu.
4. Unzip the map and put it into the mod folder you located in the step above. You want to end up with a folder structure that looks like Mini Metro/mod/casablanca/city.json

Start Mini Metro, navigate to the Play menu, and then to the Community Maps via the button in the top-right. The player-built maps will be listed here if they loaded correctly. Each new map can be played in any game mode, and many also contain challenges you can try to complete!

How do I build my own map?

Katarzyna has written up a very detailed document for anyone who wants to create their own maps for others to play. You can find her guide up on Steam Workshop .
